ComplicationFlaw Catalog

A ~~complication~~Flaw matters only when it creates a real decision, cost, exposure, or relationship problem. It never removes player agency or forces harmful behavior without the player's agreement. The older term complication remains a compatibility synonym.

Visible Tell

You have a difficult-to-conceal habit, mark, aura, or physical response when you lie or feel threatened.

Old Obligation

A family, institution, oath, creditor, or community can reasonably call on you for difficult service.

Environmental Unease

Choose open sky, deep water, enclosed spaces, heights, crowds, or magical darkness. Exposure can cause hesitation, withdrawal, or a risky coping behavior.

Ritual Dependence

A daily personal ritual is important to your equilibrium. Missing it makes you irritable, distracted, or visibly unsettled until you can perform it.

Marked by Power

A supernatural sign becomes visible when you use ancestry magic, making secrecy or mistaken identity harder.

Inherited Rivalry

A faction, family, creature type, or institution associates your lineage with an old conflict.

Fragile Reputation

Your community expects a standard you cannot always meet; public failure has consequences for trust and status.

Hoarding Instinct

Choose knowledge, favors, food, trophies, coin, tools, or stories. Giving up a meaningful example is emotionally difficult.

Restless Curiosity

Forbidden, sealed, or unexplained things tempt you to investigate even when caution would be wiser.

Protective Reflex

You struggle to ignore a vulnerable person in immediate danger, even when intervention complicates the plan.

Prideful Challenge

You find it difficult to leave a direct public challenge unanswered without explaining why.

Supernatural Appetite

A harmless but unusual substance, sensation, or environment periodically draws you and can expose your nature.

Unwelcome Dreams

Prophetic, ancestral, or traumatic dreams sometimes reveal fears, fragments, or misleading symbols.

Choose one ~~culture~~Heritage other than your own. You frequently misread one category of its etiquette until corrected.

Body at Odds

A mixed or transformed body requires unusual clothing, medicine, food, or accommodations that are not always available.

Name-Bound

A true name, inherited title, or oath-name carries emotional or supernatural importance and can be used to pressure you.
